Winter, Summer, Spring or Fall – you’re sure to find something to do in Benezette or the surrounding area to help you rest, relax, enjoy some nature and maybe spot a few elk during your stay with In The Sticks Cabins.
Winter
During the Winter months, Pennsylvania Elk stay in large herds that you’re likely to see in sunny fields, digging through the snow to find grass and other shrubbery to eat.
- Snuggle up with a good book in the cabin
- First Day Hike at Parker Dam State Park
- Non-Polar Plunge @ Medix Hotel
- MountainFest in Ridgway (We are so sad this is cancelled again in 2025!)
- Antler Shed Hunting (Bulls drop their antlers beginning mid-March)
Spring
In the Spring bull elk are still losing their antlers, pregnant cows are hiding out in the woods waiting for calves to arrive around May.
- Start a fire in the outdoor fire ring w/provided firewood (Our rings are purchased locally at Grant’s Pass Wrought Iron!)
- Trout fishing at Shagger’s pond
- Chainsaw Carver’s Rendezvous in Ridgeway
Summer
As the weather warms up, the best elk viewing is at dusk and dawn. Cows begin to venture out with their calves in early Summer and by late Summer the calves are losing their spots.
- Kayaking in the Bennett’s Branch of the Sinnemahoning Creek (do this early in the summer as creek gets LOW from late June on)

Fall
Benezette in the Fall is where the magic happens. Our cabins fill up quickly as visitors from all over head to Pennsylvania to see our elk in rut.
- Stargazing by the campfire – turn off the porch lights and look up on a clear night, we’ve got fantastic views of the stars way up here!
- Wagon Rides at The Elk Country Visitor Center (we’ve actually never done this, but have had guests rave about their rides)
- Elktoberfest at the Benezette School House
